10x Fry before you die: these are the things you really have to try

Everything tastes good deep-fried, right? I’ve never tried deep-fried butter, ice cream or pickles myself, but some people swear by them. As far as I’m concerned, these 10 things are truly a try (or fry) before you die. Fire up that deep fryer!

Pickles
With a hamburger or fish & chips, you always get delicious crispy fries. But deep-fried pickles are also delicious with them. Fresh, sour and yet deep-fried—sounds like a tasty side dish, right?

Brussels sprouts
Boiling Brussels sprouts until they’re mush is (thank goodness) a thing of the past. They’re much tastier roasted in the oven or… deep-fried. This is how you make deep-fried Brussels sprouts (does that still count as a vegetable, actually?)
Butter
Yes, really! And no, they aren’t simply deep-fried lumps, but butter that is first whipped until light and fluffy, frozen again, and then coated in a layer of bread dough. The result is a kind of bread ball filled with melted butter. It’s actually a very well-known snack in Texas, by the way.
Tomatoes
And not the red ones, but the green ones. They’re not as ripe as the red ones yet and are therefore slightly more sour. That pairs nicely with the greasiness of deep-frying. An absolute fry before you die, then.

Mac & Cheese
Got leftover Mac & Cheese? Put it in the fridge and shape it into balls the next day, coating them in panko, for example. Deep-fry them briefly and you’ve got a top-notch snack! Also amazing: deep-fried ravioli with Parmesan cheese.
Peanuts
Peanuts are always a delicious snack with a cold glass of beer at the pub. But you can also deep-fry them. With the shells and all (!) And yes, you can eat those deep-fried shells too.
Caprese
Hollow out a (cherry) tomato and fill it with mozzarella. Dip it in batter and deep-fry it. Dip the balls in pesto, because that’s when they truly become caprese. Also delicious: deep-fried mozzarella balls.
Ice cream
You can deep-fry ice cream, and it’s actually quite well known. Scoop balls of ice cream from the tub and place them on a tray in the freezer. Then roll them in a mixture of finely crushed cornflakes and cinnamon and deep-fry them for a maximum of 10 seconds, so the ice cream doesn’t melt completely.

Strawberries
Deep-fried strawberries are so delicious. The batter shouldn’t be too thick, but not too thin either, and you shouldn’t deep-fry them for too long. Once fried, you can dip them in melted chocolate for an extra treat. Yum!
Pumpkin
Forget sweet potato fries—pumpkin fries are what you want. Deep-fry them the same way you would sweet potato fries! A delicious variation, right?
