Dangerous place
Most house fires start in the kitchen, according to fire research (and firefighter) Bas Gul. Insurer Inshared knows it: the kitchen is a dangerous place. People forget they still have something on the stove, the oven is still on or the flame catches the pan, and in a panic people no longer know what they were supposed to do. Gul: ‘Sometimes the damage isn’t too bad, but often the smoke ruins your entire household contents.’ If you live with one of these kitchen disasters it’s best to keep the insurance policies close at hand and have a weekend bag with the photo albums, cash and passports packed and ready for a quick escape.
