14 of the strangest names on supermarket packaging

Every year, Radio 538 makes a list of the strangest Dutch names, belonging to people who are, for example, called Constant Lam or K. Bouter. And anyone who has ever taken a stroll through Ikea is astonished by the strange names given to furniture (cushion cover Häxört? Really?) and we also had a good laugh at Aldi peanut butter with ‘Helaes’ on the label (the peanut butter was enough to make you cry). But these images really take the cake – or hit rock bottom.

Who comes up with such a product name? Is it an intern with a fantastic sense of humor, who is now surprised themselves that their suggestion was approved by the marketing team? Or is it a product manager with a poor command of language and Google Translate? The result of a brainstorming session with the entire team and a crate of vodka? A category manager with the IQ of a tadpole? Or—and this would be very cunning—is it a carefully chosen marketing strategy to get shared as much as possible on social media? If the latter is the case: hats off—but how this will lead to high sales is a mystery to us.
