16 x bizarre snacks from the seventies
Everything used to be better, except for food photography. Anna Pallai shows that in her book 70s Dinner Party, Downright Retro. She was getting a little tired of the glamour of poké bowls and purple lattes on Instagram, and looked for inspiration in cookbooks from the seventies.
Anna Pallai is particularly fascinated by festive snacks, as you can see on her Twitter. They are quite bizarre snacks: little dogs made from frankfurters, turtles made from apples, and the creepiest deviled eggs ever—all perfectly normal in the seventies. ‘And if there’s a check mark next to something, there’s a good chance my mother made it,’ says Pallai.

Mum’s cookbook
Pallai started with her mother’s cookbooks, but she also found gems in charity shops, and friends soon started bringing them to her attention. Would she eat the food? ‘The desserts: definitely. But I’d rather leave anything with gelatin alone.’
