17 totally ridiculous orders – honestly, it can get even crazier

If you work in service, your job is never boring. People order a toasted sandwich for the dog, ‘because he’s hungry’, stuff seven slices of lemon into their cola and put pizzas through the blender. The article about strange orders received so many reactions on Facebook that we’ve listed the craziest ones.

When the pears are fried
Marjolein: ‘Poire Belle Hélène, but without the pear because I can’t stand it.’
Make it vegetarian, please
Among Sanne’s guests, vegetarian food was apparently still in its infancy. What did they order? ‘A carpaccio, but without the carpaccio.’
Better check first
What is the soup of the day, what’s in a farmer’s omelet, can the window be opened and how many bitterballen are in a serving: if you work in service, you have to answer quite a few questions. Jill also got a brain-teaser: ‘Is the Helvoirtse duinham sandwich vegetarian?’
You can never get it right
So what is the kitchen brigade supposed to make when the ticket says: ‘Bacon omelet, without egg’? Dylan guessed: just bacon. ‘And then she asked where that white-and-yellow stuff was.’
The base, the bottom
Bo could relate. ‘During a student job, I once had someone order a four-cheese pizza, but preferably without cheese.’ So that would be… the base?
But I don’t like fish
Another one in the category ‘this, without this’. Daisy: ‘Tuna meal salad, but without tuna.’
Definitely not Hawaii
Bob: ‘Pineapple pancake. But without pineapple.’
Does that fit?
In the category ‘espresso with ten sugar cubes’, Vera knows another one. ‘A cola with seven slices of lemon.’
Not ordered
Such a massive disappointment: your order arrives and there’s something in it you don’t like. Just ask Dion: ‘A guest complained, “There are tomatoes in this tomato soup. I would have liked to know that beforehand.”’
Chewing, ouch
Nicole blinked at this order: ‘Could you put the bread through the blender? And then the soup as well, because sir can’t chew.’ One more addition: ‘Not too hot, otherwise he’ll burn his mouth.’
Chewing, ouch II
Apparently the same guest also likes eating pizza. Or… pizza soup, then. Iris: ‘Pizza with salami, onion, egg, bell pepper and a few other ingredients. And please put it through the blender, because the dentures hurt.’
Vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free
The craziest order? Irina doesn’t have to think long. ‘Just a tomato on a little plate, not even sliced.’
A strong weak brew
So you want strong coffee but quickly get an upset stomach. Or you want a pick-me-up, but not that coffee flavor. The motivation is puzzling, but Lieke had to deal with it: the order ‘Double espresso with milk.’
There’s no harm in asking
Adapting a dish to a guest’s wishes is usually not much of a problem. Prefer fries? Check. Extra mayo? Check. But Nol wasn’t quite sure how to handle this one: ‘Can you remove the pepper from hare pepper?’
You have to be into it
Sometimes the order itself isn’t puzzling, but the combination of orders is. At Maite’s, someone ordered: ‘Carpaccio as a starter. And then a well-done tournedos, because the guest doesn’t eat red meat.’
Bony fish
When clearing the table, service asks: is everything to your liking? Daisy got a surprising answer. ‘Ordered sole. Everything to your liking? There were far too many bones in it; it was inedible.’
Love for animals
People who take their dog out to eat, that’s sweet, right? Sweet? The dog owner asked Ivo whether the dog could sit on a chair too. ‘Because he’s eating along as well? No problem.’ The dog owner orders a pancake for himself and a toasted sandwich for the dog. And five minutes later, a question: ‘Is the toasted sandwich ready yet? Because the dog is very hungry.’
