4 facts even the biggest McDonald’s fan doesn’t know yet

mcdonald’s big mac

Last week I was in London (highly recommended, especially around Christmas — although it is a little busy) and of course there was plenty of walking, eating and drinking. In short: we had a hangover in London. And what can you always count on to make you feel better? That’s right, Maccie! So we ordered a delicious hangover lunch and before I knew it, I was eating a Big Mac.

And then I thought again: it’s quite remarkable that they manage to make it taste more or less the same in every country. Of course, there are some differences here and there, especially when it comes to the MacHacks. Most of those only apply to the United States.

What you didn’t know about McDonald’s in the Netherlands

That’s why I’m focusing on McDonald’s in the Netherlands for a change, because there’s still plenty to learn about it too. Bet you didn’t know these four facts either? As a self-proclaimed MacFan, I certainly had no idea until recently.

1. In Dutch McDonald’s restaurants, it takes an average of 57 seconds to prepare a Big Mac fresh. A skill I would love to learn.
2. On average, three days pass between harvesting the lettuce and the moment it ends up on your burger. Sometimes it’s only 24 hours — I really didn’t expect that.
3. It may taste the same all over the world, but many of the ingredients used in the Netherlands actually come from our own country: the lettuce, milk, fries sauce (I did expect that one — because I really miss it abroad too), the fries, Chicken McNuggets, McKroket (obviously) and the Meatless range all come from our own little country.
4. You may have read this somewhere before, but it’s seriously true: the burgers are quite easy to recreate. The recipe really only contains beef, and nothing else is added. And we’re also sharing the recipe for the real Big Mac sauce right away. There you go!

Well, now I’ve worked up an appetite. Off to Maccie!
