5 drinking games for everyone with a party itch

For the past few weeks, I was perfectly happy with my Friday nights on the sofa, but now I’m getting a serious urge to party. Sound familiar? Of course, you shouldn’t give in to it — at least not outside the home. Luckily, with these drinking games, you can have dangerously good fun indoors too.

What do you need? A housemate (whether or not you’re in love with them), a thirst for drinks and, optionally, more company via an app that lets you video call (think FaceTime, Houseparty or Zoom), and the party can begin.
Jenga
Everyone knows the game with the little blocks. But do you know the drinking version too? Very easy to make yourself: simply write a task on each block (like this). Of course, the easiest way is to play this game ‘offline’ at the table, but it works over video calls too. You all just need to have Jenga at home.
Tip: TonTon Club has the ultimate all-in-one package with shots and Jenga. The motto: ‘You’re going to topple over anyway’. Great, right?
Never have I ever
A classic, super simple and very easy to play online. When it’s your turn, you make a statement. ‘I have never gotten lost while drunk’, for example. Everyone who has experienced this takes a sip. Or a full shot. It all depends on how wild you want to get.
Tip: Need inspiration? Here you’ll find a whole list of questions.
Beer pong
Just like Jenga, this one is more suited to offline than online use, although you can make it work with a little creativity. Either way: arrange six cups of beer in a triangle on the other side of the table and try to throw the ball into the cups. Made it? Then the other person has to drink.
Tip: Make sure to clean the ball properly first, for hygiene reasons.
Truth or Drink
We all know truth or dare. I’ve never really understood the ‘dare’ part, though, and ‘doing’ something on your own during corona times is a little difficult. So let’s just turn it into Truth or Drink.
Take turns asking someone a question. They can choose whether to answer or drink instead. Shots or sips? Once again: how wild do you want to get?
Tip: with this online version, you get all the questions served up on a silver platter.
Netflix Party
Want to combine lounging on the sofa with drinking games? Netflix has just the invention: Netflix Party. It lets you watch Netflix together from a distance. That’s already great without drinks, but with drinks it’s even better.
Choose your favorite series, Friends for example. And make arrangements beforehand about when you drink. When Joey says “How you doin’?” When Ross starts talking about dinosaurs, when Rachel runs her hand through her hair, when Chandler tells a bad joke and when Phoebe sings, just to name a few.
Tip: Harry Potter and Game of Thrones are perfect for this too.
