Many restaurants still have few vegetarian options, which is why a completely vegetarian menu is a breath of fresh air for vegetarians. These are some vegetarian hotspots in Utrecht where you won’t find any meat in the kitchen.

Waku Waku

This restaurant is brand new and located opposite Tivoli Vredenburg. The interior has a trendy look and the menu is entirely plant-based. The sweet potato fries with truffle mayo are deliciously crispy, and the vegan ‘Peking Luck’ is said to be indistinguishable from the real thing. The portions are large, so they’re perfect for sharing.

GYS Voorstraat

GYS on Voorstraat is sustainable and vegetarian. A must-try is their popular vegetarian kapsalon with tempeh, sweet potato, feta and vegetables. A perfect substitute for the classic kapsalon. GYS’s other location is not entirely vegetarian, but it does offer plenty of meat-free options on the menu.

Broei

The menu at Broei changes every so often, which is why it is always surprising. They make their own bread in their bakery, and you can taste it. You can come here all day for the most delicious dishes.

Oproer

Beer and vegetarian food—what more could you want? Oproer is a brewery, so they also serve several of their own beers to choose from. The restaurant also serves a completely vegetarian menu. There isn’t much choice here, but it is very tasty in combination with a beer.

Op Saj

At Op Saj, they give you the best of the enormous Syrian cuisine. The food is simple, but rich in herbs and flavor. They serve, among other things, falafel, manakish and saj in various ways.
