6 tips for getting more out of your waffle iron!

Do you have a waffle iron? Lucky you! Because this appliance can do so much more than just put Liège (or Brussels) waffles on the table, although you should definitely keep doing that often. You can also make these surprising things with it, each one even more delicious than the last!

So next time someone accuses you of having too many kitchen appliances lying around, simply quickly serve them one of these amazing banana bread waffles; that’ll shut them up immediately. Or something else from this list:
Pizza waffle
Super easy and healthier than pizza rolls from the supermarket: a thin sheet of pizza dough, some tomato sauce, mozzarella or whatever cheese you like, toppings that make you happy (’nduja for me!), and another thin layer of dough. Easy and delicious!
Good start
You can even, wait for it, make healthy breakfast waffles! Make a batter with oat flour (easy to make yourself by grinding oats finely); this is a good gluten-free recipe from Cookie and Kate. Top with fruit and you’re ready for your day.

Bacon
Of course, you can also have bacon with those healthy breakfast waffles. And it’s just as easy to make in the waffle iron. You’ll immediately get a deliciously crispy pattern in it, too. No need for a splatter pan, and handy if you can’t bake your bacon in the oven for once.
Potato pancakes
Or rather, potato waffle cakes, because you simply put the mashed-potato dough for these healthy yet comforting bites in the waffle iron. Follow this potato pancake recipe, then bake them in the iron until golden brown instead of in a pan. Delicious with Appenzeller® cheese! You can also vary things up with sweet potato and add herbs such as rosemary or cayenne pepper.
Mac and cheese waffles
As if ‘regular’ mac and cheese weren’t brilliant enough already! It obviously is, but just imagine it with an insanely delicious crispy golden-brown crust on both sides too… oh, you can’t hear me anymore because you’re getting your waffle iron out of the cupboard…

Hash browns
Related to the potato pancakes mentioned above, but made with raw grated potatoes instead of mashed cooked potatoes. Still one of the ultimate hangover breakfasts, especially if you also add plenty of (fried) bacon bits and cheese. Or banish your hangover by trying to be healthy and mix some grated zucchini into the batter too. Delicious even without a hangover! And with cheese sauce poured over it as well? YES!
