Through TikTok, we were already introduced to the phenomenon of ‘girl dinner‘. In other words, throw all your leftovers and favorite snacks from your pantry together and you have a meal. We also call it lazy and delicious comfort food. Naturally, the testosterone corner had to respond. And it has: boy dinner is now also a hit on TikTok.
Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, as they say. In other words, we differ from each other. Boy and girl dinners do have some things in common. That lazy and delicious comfort food is the essence of both types of ‘dinners’. The difference lies only in the way we approach it. A pretty typical difference, let me put it that way.
2 girl dinner categories
Type ‘girl dinner’ into TikTok and you’ll get a whole lot of hits. You can actually divide the girl dinner videos into 2 categories: the I’m-opening-a-jar-of-pickles-because-I-don’t-care category and the I’m-taking-my-favorite-snacks-and-putting-them-in-cute-bowls-by-candlelight category. Humor is central to the pickles category, while the cute-bowls category is mainly about the pretty picture.
Protein bar
The pickles category also exists among boy dinners. A quick look at the boy dinner feed, for example, shows videos in which men promote a protein bar as a boy dinner. Somewhat sporty women could do that too. Okay, we also see boy dinners featuring a can of meat. That seems to me—although to each their own—a rare choice for a girl dinner.
Pizza from yesterday (or the day before)
Now you’re probably wondering: WHAT is the male cute-bowls category, then? I’ll tell you: that category is far from cute. It’s more horrifyingly disgusting. The ‘inventor’ of boy dinner shows a typical example of a boy dinner in his TikTok, which has now been viewed millions of times. In other words: a filthy room full of dirty clothes and food packaging, with an un-sleepable-in bed, and under the duvet… a half-eaten pizza. Probably from yesterday. Or the day before, if we zoom in a little more closely on the pizza itself. Watch and shudder.

Noodles in the sink
The days-old pizza in bed is just one example of a classic boy dinner. Another gem: an opened package of instant noodles in the sink. As a woman, I do wonder a little about the thinking behind this. Don’t men feel sick at the thought of those noodles sitting in the sink for 2 days? And why eat from the sink? Is the dining table or sofa too far away? So the essence of a boy dinner isn’t just being deliciously lazy, but also being downright disgusting. Men, please tell me that these TikToks were made for fun and are not a representation of reality. And that there may also be some men walking around who secretly come from Venus instead of Mars.
