Instant noodles are delicious – that unbelievably satisfying salty, hot, spicy broth, from which those perfect chewy-yet-soft noodles are so easy to slurp up… Yummy! And then there’s the choice, that range! The colors, the pictures, the price! Chef David Chang, of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious fame, named his entire Momofuku empire after the inventor of instant ramen: Momofuku Ando – that’s how much he loves them…

Slurp in moderation

But, Jesus, what grim news: they’re not good for you, and that’s all there is to say about it. A bit of a downer, perhaps. But what if you simply eat instant noodles every now and then and enjoy them tremendously? Great plan, if you ask me. And for that instant noodle fix, Albert Heijn is now a great place to go, because its range has been massively expanded as of today.

Extra-spicy Samyang, Jongga noodles with kimchi

One noodle isn’t the same as another; every country has its own brands and flavors. That’s why Albert Heijn is bringing in eight new authentic brands from various Asian countries; the noodles come from Thailand, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam. You’ll find popular brands such as extra-spicy Samyang, the various Vietnamese pho flavors from Vifon, Itsu’s genuine vegan broth paste with high-protein soy noodles, the Singaporean flavors of Koka and Laksa, Nongshim’s slightly thicker and spicier noodles, Thailand’s number-one brand Mama and Jongga noodles with kimchi (fermented cabbage).

Tip: pimp your instant noodles

The advantage of instant noodles, besides the fact that they’re tasty and cheap, is that they’re ready quickly. Add boiling water to the noodles and add the sachet of seasoning, usually a spice mix or oil. Let them sit for a moment and loosen them with a fork or chopsticks. Pimped with some vegetables, an egg, some seaweed and hot sauce, this stuff is truly irresistible!

And you know what else is a good idea? Making this savory, spicy noodle salad that stays delicious for ages!
