ALDI wins major award for fish range: the best choice for sustainable fish

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), an internationally recognised organisation for sustainability in fisheries, has praised the supermarket chain for its strong commitment to sustainable fishing. What makes ALDI’s fish range so sustainable?
ALDI Netherlands and the MSC Award: what makes this special?
On 9 October 2025, ALDI Netherlands was presented with the prestigious MSC Award for its efforts in sustainable fishing. The MSC label is known worldwide as one of the most reliable certifications for fish products sourced from sustainable and responsible fishing practices.
What did ALDI do to earn this award?
According to the MSC jury report, ALDI has given more than 90% of its fresh fish range the MSC label. This means that most of the fish you buy at ALDI comes from fish stocks that are not overfished, bycatch is minimised, and the seabed is not damaged. The supermarket demonstrates not only its commitment to the MSC programme, but also its structural dedication to sustainable fishing.
Farmed fish with a label too
In addition to the MSC label, ALDI also sells fish with the ASC label (Aquaculture Stewardship Council), meaning that the fish comes from farms that limit their impact on nature and the environment. This takes animal welfare and water quality into account, and no feed that promotes overfishing is used.
