Albert Heijn: best Dutch supermarket for fish
Albert Heijn also won a major award, namely that of “Best Dutch Supermarket”. The supermarket achieved the highest score in both the value and volume of MSC-certified fish. Albert Heijn also performed strongly in the category of diversity and number of products carrying the MSC label, meaning you can count on a wide range of sustainable fish here. Thanks to its strong involvement in the MSC initiative, Albert Heijn continues to work on improving the sustainability of its fish range.
Fish Tales: Achievement of the Year
Fish Tales was named “Achievement of the Year” this year for its innovative approach to sustainable fish products. As a pioneer in the fishing industry, Fish Tales introduced MSC-certified octopus products and opened the pop-up store Tins & Fins, the very first Dutch ‘conserveria’ in Amsterdam, focused exclusively on MSC-certified fish. In addition, the brand has put herring back on the map among young people through creative collaborations, bringing the future of sustainable fish to their attention.
Other major winners: Sea Fresh Retail, Roem van Yerseke and Delta Mossel
In addition to the major supermarkets, Sea Fresh Retail, Roem van Yerseke and Delta Mossel were also honoured as the best suppliers of sustainable fish. These companies stand out through their commitment to sustainably caught fish and organically farmed products.
Sea Fresh Retail offers a range consisting mainly of sustainable and organic fish, Roem van Yerseke combines craftsmanship with innovative ways of reaching young people with sustainable mussels, and Delta Mossel stands out through a transparent approach that tells the story of shellfish and contributes to broader sustainability goals.
