An Ode to the Vlamtosti

vlamtosti

The snack I’m genuinely crazy about, and hardly ever see on menus, is the vlammetje. Sometimes you’ll find one in a mixed snack platter (far too few, if you ask me), but ordering a portion on its own… FORGET IT. Why do so many restaurants refuse to put these on their snack menus? So lame. Still, there is a spicy bright spot…

You can buy them for home, but then I run into a ‘problem’ too: I don’t have a deep fryer. Purely as a form of self-protection, because with my love of snacks, something like that can quickly get completely out of hand. And vlammetjes are genuinely less tasty in an Airfryer.

The ultimate combination of two favourite snacks

But then, all of a sudden, there was the Vlamtosti! Or well, all of a sudden: maybe it’s been around much longer, but it recently entered my life and now I’m hooked. The Vlamtosti has brutally knocked my long-time lover, the chicken satay toastie, off its throne. Why? First of all: the Vlamtosti is simply divine! And even better: you don’t have to do anything yourself! Just buy it ready-made, add some chilli sauce and HOPPA, job done.

Even better than vlammetjes?

I might even like the Vlamtosti better than a portion of vlammetjes. Because that cheese is such a great addition. And for just over two euros, you get two. TWO! An absolute bargain. So you’ll understand that I’m going to have another one now. And if I sound passionate about this ready-made toastie, that’s because I am. No sponsorship, this is simply pure enjoyment.

PS: If you happen to know places where vlammetjes are actually available, please let me know.
