Another slice? This couple ate this instead of pâté…
Oh no, these poor, sweet oldies! Angela Holloway’s elderly British mother and stepfather had actually been tucking into a certain pâté in France that their daughter had brought along. And sporty as they are, they all burst out laughing when they discovered what they had actually been eating…
Maybe they weren’t wearing their reading glasses and couldn’t make out the picture on the packaging. Or perhaps they thought they saw the English word for chatting on the French packaging: something along the lines of ‘make a delicious charcuterie board with this, open a bottle of wine and have a lovely chat over drinks!’ But what did it turn out to be in reality..?
Not fit for human consumption (today)
A fragrant little block of cat food. Yep. So either they didn’t see the drawing or photo of a cat on the packaging, or no alarm bells went off when they saw something like ‘le chat’. And so they probably enjoyed a baguette with it, washed the whole lot down with a glass of chardonnay, and promptly asked their daughter (who does their grocery shopping) to bring that delicious pâté from the shop again next time.
At which point the daughter thought, ‘Wait a minute… I didn’t buy any pâté at all!?’ And soon everything fell into place. The mother, eighty years old, and her stepfather (95) were thankfully able to laugh heartily about it, although the latter did ask whether this was Angela’s way of trying to poison him. Angela herself said she nearly wet herself laughing, and now understands that French packaging may require a little extra explanation for her elderly British parents…
Curious as a cat
