Are you the hottest chef in the country?

On 3 March, we announced Tabasco’s cooking competition, the Hottest Chef Competition. Little did we know that two weeks later everything would change and all the fun things would temporarily be unable to go ahead. Fortunately, Tabasco didn’t let the heat get to them and they’re now taking things online. So come on, sign up, show us how HOT you are and win a trip to America!

Spice up your kitchen
This year’s theme is being changed from Spice up the Dutch to Spice up your kitchen, with contestants asked not only to use local products, but also to emphasise the origins of local suppliers. A great idea, of course, because support your locals! The story behind the recipe will carry more weight in the judging.
Putting yourself out there
The competition’s biggest difference lies mainly in how the final is held. It will now take place entirely online, with the public having a say. ‘This does require some extra effort from the contestants, because if you make it to the final, we expect a video from you that we’ll put online,’ says Jord Althuizen, chairman of the jury. So put yourself out there in front of the camera! (Well, figuratively speaking, because cooking with Tabasco is hot enough already.)
FavorFlav on the jury
Both people at home and the professional jury choose a winner. So it could well be that two different winners emerge from the pepper pot and win a ticket to America. The professional jury is led by BBQ specialist Jord Althuizen (known for his fantastic Smokey Goodness and BBQ restaurant Black Smoke in Rotterdam). He is joined by Felix Wilbrink, culinary journalist at De Telegraaf, Lars Drost, winner of The Hottest Chef 2015 and now sous-chef at Ciel Bleu **, our own editor-in-chief Sharon van Lokhorst and Tabasco’s Corporate Chef Gary Evans.
