What if I told you that your favorite dish also exists in cocktail form? Wouldn’t that just be the best news you’ve heard all year? I’m telling you: at cocktail bar Double Chicken Please in New York City, this is actually a reality.
Double Chicken Please was recently named the best bar in all of North America. I can see why, if you put cocktails inspired by favorite dishes on the menu. That’s sure to draw everyone in.
Guilty pleasures
The cocktail bar hasn’t been open for very long. When COVID was at its peak in November 2020, cocktail champions GN Chan and Faye Chen decided to give it a try. Their cocktail bar consists of two parts, with the unusual cocktails listed on the menu in the back (slightly mysterious) room. As if they’re actually an exciting secret, a kind of guilty pleasures that no one is supposed to know about. Keeping that secret hasn’t exactly worked out. These days, the bar is packed with curious cocktail lovers almost every day.
Cold Pizza cocktail
So, cocktails inspired by your favorite dishes. What can you expect? Well, a Cold Pizza Cocktail, for example. With Parmesan cheese, burnt toast (yes, really), tomato and basil. Plus some honey and egg white, I imagine, for sweetness and creaminess. And the alcohol? They chose Don Fulano Blanco, a smooth tequila from Mexico. Yep, this sounds like you’re eating a bite of pizza and taking a sip of tequila at the same time. Love it. (And something very different from that eternal Espresso Martini)
Noodles, Waldorf salad and French toast
Other highlights on the menu include the Japanese Cold Noodle cocktail, made with pineapple, cucumber, coconut, lime, sesame oil and Bacardi Superior. Or the Waldorf Salad cocktail: a mix of apple, celery, ginger ale, walnut bitters and two types of whisky. Another one that immediately makes my mouth water is the French Toast cocktail. With brioche, coconut, milk, maple syrup, toasted barley and Grey Goose vodka. Doesn’t that sound divine? And as if you’ve found the perfect pre-drinks. With cocktails like these, you immediately lay a foundation for the rest of the evening. At least in your mind.
