BI-ZAR: these people squeeze all their food and the group keeps getting bigger

If you think you’ve seen everything: things can always get crazier. Like the Instagram account ‘Gripping Food With Force’, filled with photos of people squeezing their food. Almost 200,000 followers watch as chocolate doughnuts, pizza slices or fries are crushed in more than 75,000 photos. Do you still understand it?

The brain behind this nonsense is Corry McKittrick. He started on Twitter with photos of himself squeezing a steak and crushing a soft-serve ice cream cone into pulp. Within a few months, he had thousands of followers. He can’t explain the success: he started the account to make people laugh, but apparently he struck a nerve somewhere, because people send him thousands of photos of themselves squeezing their food into mush. He has since been kicked off Twitter because his photos don’t comply with the platform’s guidelines – an interesting thought when you consider what does remain online, but you can still find him on Instagram .

Pineapple for advanced squeezers

McKittrick is very happy with his account. ‘It’s great that people submit their own images. That raises the bar a little. They try to outdo one another. And the photos offer a glimpse into my followers’ daily lives,’ he says. Beginners submit photos of a hot dog or a Capri Sun pouch, but advanced squeezers go for an entire pineapple or a cardboard carton of chocolate milk.

Fine arts

For McKittrick, the food-squeezing photos have nothing to do with sex, social criticism or tasty food; he sees them as art. ‘People feel something about the food they pulverize,’ he tells Vice. ‘The submissions from people are almost artistic. The images they create, the mess they produce, the light: the photos keep getting better.’
