These Are the Weirdest Fast Food Items Ever

There are quite a few items on fast food menus around the world, and every country has its own signature snack. While we have our quintessentially Dutch McKroket, the Italians have pizza panzerotti snacks. All fairly normal compared to these extraordinary snack items.

Black Ninja burger

When you think of a ninja, you don’t immediately think of a black hamburger. Except in Japan. That’s where we found this black hamburger, inspired by the typical Japanese warrior, on the menu. The black bun is topped with black cheese, colored with charcoal, and black squid ink sauce. The XL strip of bacon symbolizes an outstretched ninja tongue.

Lasagne sandwich

The lasagne sandwich, or lasandwich, thankfully disappeared some time ago. The English Tesco launched this sandwich as “a good option for a filling snack between meals”. Two thick slices of white bread filled with ragù, lasagne sheets, and a creamy cheddar-ricotta-mayo dressing. Let’s not let the Italians hear about it…

Dried pork and seaweed donut

Rousong (dried meat) is an extremely popular product in China. It is frequently used as a topping for various dishes. Including a donut. Add some dried seaweed and voilà: international news. Not sweet but savory. And whether it’s actually tasty…

Brussels sprout surprise Whopper

Somewhere in the distant past, you could visit several English Burger Kings during the holidays for the Brussels sprout surprise Whopper. A burger made with Brussels sprouts. Why? Because (slightly overcooked) Brussels sprouts are a classic side dish at Christmas. It didn’t stick around, though, because opinions about this musty burger were rather, uh… negative, to put it mildly.

Double Down Dog

Juicy chicken wrapped in an ultra-crispy crust: fried chicken is the ultimate fast food snack. In the Philippines, KFC went one step further and came up with the Double Down Dog. A ‘hot dog’ with fried chicken and cheese as the bun, containing a thick hot dog. Nice try, but we really prefer eating those two things separately.
