Brasserie George opens in the Houthavens: Anglo-French cuisine with an Amsterdam twist

The Houthavens in Amsterdam has gained a culinary destination with the arrival of Brasserie George. Inspired by the classic charm of a French brasserie and the relaxed atmosphere of a local favorite, it is a welcome addition to the city. Chef Tom Haines, known for his love of Anglo-French cuisine, has put together a menu full of comfort food. The pleasant atmosphere, baguette with French butter and perfectly cooked French fries with mayonnaise make Brasserie George the new living room of the Houthavens.

Location and atmosphere

Brasserie George is located near restaurant REM on REM Island and is easily accessible for everyone in and around the Houthavens. And from outside the area too, as there are plenty of parking options nearby. With its spacious layout, classic brasserie details, pleasant atmosphere, good acoustics, comfortable chairs and sofas – and that delicious Verdejo on the wine list – this is a place where you will want to linger. The terrace is limited in size, but does have a few spots in the sun.

George: 10 locations

George is no stranger anymore. There are now ten locations, all but one in Amsterdam. Do not expect the same menu everywhere, although some classics do appear on the menu in multiple locations, such as the Pizza Tuna; the George specialty with cult status. It is on the menu here too. What else can you expect at the new Brasserie George?

Alongside delicious classics such as steak tartare, grilled leek with mustard vinaigrette, salad with Roquefort and pear, and grilled chicken, we have a few more tips for you:

• The Sticky Toffee Pudding – based on the chef’s family recipe

• Fish & Chips – every Wednesday, crispy and classic for €19

• Sunday Roast – every Sunday, including Easter Sunday, with all the trimmings, to share from 2 people for €26 p.p. The traditional Sunday Roast is a festive plate full of perfectly roasted meat, crispy potatoes, gravy and vegetables. And especially on Easter Sunday, this British classic is served extra festively.

Deli George: quick bites & coffee to go

Next to the brasserie is Deli George. Here you can buy generously filled sandwiches, freshly baked croissants and, of course, you can also get coffee to go. You will find Brasserie George at Houthavenkade 103.
