Breatharian: some people literally never eat anything

breatharian

Today I’m introducing you to a lifestyle that’s far removed from my world—and probably yours too: the Breatharians. A lifestyle in which nothing is eaten. Is that a typo? Oh, absolutely not. Breatharians are completely convinced that food is an overrated necessity of life and that you can live (or survive) perfectly well on air alone (hence their name). Eehhh, okay…? So how exactly does that work?

Breatharians live on ‘prana’, which means ‘life air’ or ‘life force’ in Sanskrit. Incidentally, if this piece has triggered you (I can’t imagine it…), you’re not supposed to just stop eating all at once. No, you first have to become vegetarian, then vegan, and gradually cut everything out… My God. This is truly my worst nightmare.

Again, HOW does this work?

After veganism, you become a fruitarian—and thus eat only fruit—and then you become a liquidarian—and therefore only drink. To no one’s surprise, many liquidarians subsequently develop quite a few food intolerances, and for some reason they see that as confirmation that their bodies didn’t need food.

The fact that your body actually does need it was proven by Verity Linn at the age of 49, when she was found dead in her home in Scotland after converting to Breatharianism. Lani Morris unfortunately proved the same thing; she died of kidney failure and a seizure. In the final stages of her life, she lived on orange juice for a week, and then went without anything again for two weeks. And repeat. Isn’t this your absolute worst nightmare?!

What have we learned from this?

Well, Breatharianism is not exactly the healthiest lifestyle you can adopt. But really, people still swear by it. Last week, LINDA. interviewed Amudra Madhura, for example, whose real name is Marjan. Because when you convert to Breatharianism, you also get a new name. Or rather, you get to choose one. Well, you learned something new… Meanwhile, I’m making a chicken satay grilled cheese sandwich. Incredibly delicious and so easy to make.
