Brilliant: they have shopping carts with a magnifying glass to read the small print on packaging here

Have you ever spent hours squinting at the tiny print on packaging in the supermarket? Wondering whether you’re seeing 100 or 1,000 calories? And whether or not there are peanuts in the package? In Germany, they’ve found the solution to all that inconvenience: shopping carts with a built-in magnifying glass!

Yes, you read that correctly. While we’re still struggling with our reading glasses (which we naturally always forget to bring), our neighbors to the east are taking a much smarter approach. The magnifying glass is conveniently attached to the handle of the shopping cart, so you can immediately zoom in on those unreadable ingredient lists. And the good news? This brilliant concept has now also been spotted at Plus in the Netherlands, such as in Mierlo (thanks to our colleague Maartje for the tip!)

Why is this such a good idea?

The magnifying glass isn’t just useful for people who don’t see as well, but also for anyone who wants to shop consciously. You no longer have to guess exactly what’s in that mysterious jar of sauce or whether those cookies really are gluten-free. Just use the magnifying glass and you’ll know. Simple, but genius.

Let’s hope this soon becomes standard in all supermarkets. Until then, a little tip: if you’re in Germany or at a Plus with one of these magnifying-glass carts, give it a try and let us know what you think!
