Brilliant: you’ll want to try this burger hack with chopsticks at home as soon as possible

Do you prefer to make the burger ‘patties’ yourself when you make hamburgers, rather than using the pre-formed ones from the store? So that you have complete control over what meat and which spices you use, and especially what size your burger will be? Especially with these burger tips from BBQ king Jord Althuizen, you’ll be perfectly prepared to start flipping burgers…

And did you know that you can also very easily divide the meat for the patties into (fairly) equal portions without kitchen scales? You’ll want to do that so that when they go on the grill (or into the pan), they’re ready at the same time, and nobody has to wait because one burger needs to be bloody rare inside while someone else is already sinking their teeth into a hamburger with pico de gallo topping.
Enter: the chopstick. And no, we’re not going to ask you to eat that enormous juicy burger with chopsticks…
How to use a chopstick for perfect hamburgers
Indeed, just one; the other can stay in the drawer for now, until you make this fantastic noodle salad with garlic oil again, for example.
- Once you’ve placed the seasoned ground meat for the burgers between two sheets of baking paper and carefully rolled it flat, take the chopstick.
- Now press the chopstick fairly deeply into the top of the paper, where the meat is underneath.
- If you’re making four burgers, press a cross into the centre. For six burgers, make one horizontal line and two vertical lines, etc.
- Now remove the top sheet of baking paper, and you can easily lift off the portions of meat and shape them into a thick disk, or a ball that you flatten.
Now you’ve neatly divided the meat, meaning all the patties will have the same cooking time. Don’t forget to press a dimple into the top, and in any case it’s a good idea to read through these frequently asked questions about hamburgers (and the answers). Then you’ll be all set, with your homemade hamburgers!
