Can we stop making pizza un-Italian?
Look, I consider myself pretty open-minded. I’m open to an awful lot of things. But I have to say: some things are going too far now. Because one of my greatest loves is pizza, and lately, quite a lot has been going wrong with it as far as I’m concerned.
Because what’s happening in pizza land at the moment? The fact that Pizza Hawaii is hardly what the Italians intended, and that we have a BBQ Chicken pizza sitting in the supermarket freezer—I could just about handle that. But now it’s really getting out of hand.
Leave the pizza alone
Dear Domino’s, this really is a fun stunt, the Frikan’Dutchman, but couldn’t this also have been an April Fool’s joke? Frikandel. On. PIZZA. My dearest, most delicious pizza… Is now suddenly being thrown into a dish with the waste disposal of what we know as meat.
Yes, sorry, but surely everyone heard the rumors when they were younger (and perhaps believed them) that it contains horse meat? Or bull’s eyes. Or animal testicles. And now that’s being slapped onto a pizza. Sorry Snackspert, I’m a fan, but the Frikan’Dutchman really goes too far for me.
A plea
I’m calling for a return to pizza as it was intended. I live in Amsterdam, and fortunately there are still plenty of places serving real Neapolitan pizzas from a wood-fired oven, which makes me very happy, but as far as I’m concerned, this could become more of a trend.
Hey Domino’s, have you ever thought about putting the Diavola on the menu? Maybe it doesn’t quite fit in with The Meaty Macho, the Chicken Kebab, Shoarma and the Fitness Fan you apparently have now (the latter has 50% less mozzarella and extra chicken—in other words, order something other than pizza).

And not just Domino’s, but you too, Papa John’s, New York Pizza and other chains: I’m talking to you as well. Could we perhaps pretend that the dish you deliver still has something to do with its actual origins?
