Cans of Unox soup confiscated: smuggled goods discovered
Twelve cans of Unox vegetable soup and chicken soup were confiscated by US police. They wondered why someone would send twelve cans from the Netherlands to Miami. The answer? Oh dear, this is seriously wrong!
A dozen cans of soup were discovered by customs in the mail, packed in a cardboard box. Why on earth would anyone send twelve cans of soup to Florida? You can buy soup in America too – maybe not Unox, but still. When they examined the package, it quickly became clear what was going on. The cans were opened, and instead of meatballs or vermicelli, customs officers found a purple liquid. Off to the lab it went, and sure enough: MDMA, the active substance in ecstasy pills.
Million dollars
According to customs, that amount of MDMA is worth around one million dollars. Those US customs officers were on a roll anyway: the next day, they found a whole lot of Tramadol pills in a homemade cake. Those pills – a painkiller – can apparently be sold on the street for 5 dollars per pill. This contraband came from London.
Prison?
The cheerful senders of the cake and the cans of soup probably will not end up in prison. The US government cannot do much, because the sender of the soup lives in the Netherlands, while the cake came from Great Britain. The only punishment: their goods were destroyed, including the cake.
