High February: baking with weed, here’s how

Dry January? Bye, we can only survive that if we can celebrate High February afterwards. Especially now that a study has shown that cannabis can prevent coronavirus infection. Win-win! Don’t sit on the couch like an apathetic teenager with the curtains closed and Netflix on repeat, but head into the kitchen and make cheerful bakes with weed added to them. Tasty food and a relaxed feeling—where do we sign? Here’s how to do it.

Let’s repeat it once more: eating a slice of cake and preventing coronavirus at the same time—it sounds too good to be true. And yet: components in cannabis can prevent the coronavirus from entering healthy cells, according to a laboratory study published in the Journal of Nature Products, as reported by De Telegraaf. So: get the weed ready and start baking!
Weed butter, yes please!
It sounds very simple: bake a space cake or make weed butter. But you can’t just toss weed into any batter; that won’t turn out well. A waste of your effort and a waste of your cake. With these tips from Green Goddess, an American company specializing in everything to do with weed, you’re sure to succeed. Remember: be wise, not suitable for minors.
Grind finely—but not too finely
The buds need to be finely ground so they are distributed evenly throughout your bake. But not too fine, of course. Some cooks use a coffee grinder (which you obviously won’t use for coffee afterwards) or a food processor (wash it thoroughly). Grind until it looks like oregano, and no finer.
Go easy on the dosage
Baking with cannabis for the first time? Watch your dosage. It’s tempting to seriously spice up your bakes, but don’t: it’ll become far too strong. Experts use the following rule of thumb: 0.3 grams of weed (buds) per person. So for a brownie serving 8 people, you only need a few grams of weed. And you don’t have to finish it all at once, okay? Put it in the freezer—with a clear sticker; you don’t want someone to eat it by accident.
Budget
You don’t need to use the very best weed for baking. Some people use leftovers, loose leaves and whatever is still floating around at the bottom of the bag. Know someone who grows their own weed? Maybe they have some trim for you—that’s good enough.
Stir, stir, stir
You want to distribute the weed evenly throughout the batter, which means stirring until your arm nearly falls off. Having all the weed, weed oil or weed butter in just one part of your bake is a bad idea.
Chocolate works well
Weed sometimes gives your bake a bitter taste. Use some vanilla sugar (in the cake) or plenty of chocolate to neutralize that flavor.
Be creative
Weed brownies are well known, as is space cake, but you love cooking and baking, so you can certainly get a little more creative. How about a weed burger, weed sriracha or a cup of weed tea?
