Carré Terrace on the Amstel launches pop-ups with Amsterdam restaurants
Feet in the sand, cocktails in hand and the tastiest dishes to eat; on the Carré Terrace on the Amstel, it’s the perfect place to spend a sunny day. And after last year’s successful edition, the renowned terrace is open again this year. This time with pop-ups from Amsterdam restaurants.
Our capital is bursting with lovely, cosy terraces for coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner. From beautiful courtyards to terraces on the water, such as the Carré terrace, which floats directly in front of the theatre on the Amstel. With the sand, palm trees and sunset, you can imagine yourself on holiday in your own country for a little while.
Summer pop-ups
This year, the Carré Terrace on the Amstel is giving restaurants that opened not long ago a stage in the evenings, but which did not get the kick-start every hospitality business hopes for because of the coronavirus crisis. A total of three restaurants will take part this summer, one different restaurant each month, each taking care of your dinner to perfection every Saturday and Sunday. The summer pop-up programme is as follows:
Restaurant Felix in July
The young chef Floris van Straalen of restaurant Felix began his career at the Zeeland Michelin-starred restaurants Oud Sluis and Pure C. Now he mixes and matches his classical, refined background with a style all his own. Floris prepares his dishes with great respect for the origin of the products and their preparation, and likes to add the occasional playful nod to Dutch cuisine.
The Traveller in August
The innovative restaurant concept by Amsterdam-Zuidoost native Michiel Deenik serves a creative menu featuring a mix of various traditional dishes from around the world, prepared in a modern way. Michiel – also known for the restaurants Vis aan de Schelde and The Roast Room – will transform the Amstel into a tropical destination for a while!
Slagerij de Beurs in September
Timo de Beurs – one of the youngest members of the butcher family of the same name – surprises with his love of traditional craftsmanship (house-made pâté en croûte! traditional English pies!). From the guests who enjoyed all his delicacies at home during the coronavirus pandemic (and stayed overnight, like we did) to all the culinary reviewers; everyone is crazy about the French classics with Slagerij de Beurs’ distinctive, characteristic twist. How about this Frikandellington? Brilliant!
Prefer lunch?
That’s possible too, because the sunny Carré Terrace on the Amstel is a great place to spend the entire day. Outside the pop-ups, you can enjoy the ‘Geef mij maar Amsterdam’ menu every day, from the first rays of sunshine until sunset: a menu of local lunch and dinner dishes prepared by the kitchen brigade from BAUT Amsterdam. Of course, you can also come by for drinks.
