Coca-Cola launches new flavor: a twist on a golden oldie
Coca-Cola is diving into nostalgia with a brand-new flavor that takes you back to sunny summer days and sticky popsicles: Coca-Cola Orange Cream. The classic we know and love, but with a fresh orange twist and a creamy hint of vanilla.
Starting February 10, this edition will be available on shelves in the US and Canada, both in the regular and sugar-free versions. So if you happen to be heading that way (or have a smuggler friend), you can give it a try.
Nostalgia in a can
According to Coca-Cola, Orange Cream is “a cultural phenomenon” that has existed since 1905 and has made a major comeback over the past ten years. The flavor is based on the iconic orange-and-cream popsicles you happily devoured as a child. And apparently Coca-Cola has been keeping a close eye on Google Trends, because searches for this nostalgic flavor were through the roof.
Marketing chief Sue Lynne Cha puts it this way: “We want to reconnect consumers with a beloved flavor tradition while continuing to explore the boundaries of taste.” Sounds very fancy, but what we mainly hear is: you want us to start stocking up on this soft drink en masse again.
Coca-Cola recall in Europe
But while Coca-Cola is dropping new flavors in America, there’s less cheerful news in Europe: the soft drink giant has announced a recall for several beverages, including Coca-Cola, Fanta Cassis and Fuze Tea. The reason? Excessively high levels of chlorate, a substance that isn’t great for your health when consumed in large quantities, especially if you have an iodine deficiency. So check your fridge if you’ve recently stocked up.
More surprises in 2025?
Coca-Cola continues to experiment with flavors. We previously got the AI-created Coca-Cola Y3000 (which was supposed to taste like the future, although no one still knows exactly what that meant) and a Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar. And if this continues, we can probably brace ourselves for even more wild combinations in 2025. Perhaps a pickle-flavored cola? Not inconceivable, considering that TikTok trends rule the world these days…
