Complaining Skittles fans overjoyed: this flavor is finally coming back

Skittles snoepjes

So many sweet tooths, so many flavors. If you ask true candy lovers about their favorites and least favorites, you’ll probably get a very varied list. For example, many people consider Bounty the least tasty chocolate in the Celebrations mix (How is that possible?! What’s the point of a little Dove chocolate?! And also: is it related to the deodorant?). But these people only really started protesting…

And for years, no less. We’re talking about die-hard Skittles fans, who have been up in arms since 2013 over this change that was introduced back then. But be honest: did you ever realize what the new and the original flavor of the green variety of these chewy candies were?

Drool-inducing sourness

I didn’t, although I have to admit that I’m not a big fan anyway. Not of candy itself, but especially not of candy that I find so sour that it makes my jaws clench and I no longer know what to do with all that drool. But I’m in the minority at home, because the rest of the family loves it. Including the green ones. And what do they apparently taste like, or are supposed to taste like? Green apple, or in proper English: Granny Smiths.

Change isn’t always good

But true enthusiasts have been protesting for years against the fact that this is, in their eyes, a ridiculous replacement for the original flavor of the green Skittles: lime. They think it’s outrageous. ‘Nobody expects this: it’s like biting into an oatmeal-raisin cookie instead of the chocolate chip you were hoping for,’ someone writes on Reddit, while another complains, ‘Who even likes sour apples without caramel?’

Persistence pays off

And after seven years of protesting, Skittles, probably worn down by millions of Granny Smith Skittles, has decided to give in to the overwhelming demand and give 70% of Skittle petitioners on Debate.org what they wanted: the lime Skittle is coming back. Bye bye Green Apple!

Reversing the change is quite a process, but things will be set in motion from October onward. So if this has also been an unbearable irritation for you, hopefully you can now be completely delighted again. Or in your Skittles!
