Countdown to Christmas with a wine-filled advent calendar

The Christmas display has been set up at the garden centre, cooking magazines are filled with roasts and beef Wellingtons, and this afternoon you can hear Chris Rea driving home on Sky Radio. There’s no getting around it: Christmas is coming. With this advent calendar, counting down to the most wonderful time of the year becomes just a little cozier.

Christmas preparations usually involve figuring out when everyone is eating at which in-laws’ house, messaging family members and friends about a menu, and working out where all your Tupperware has gone over the course of the year—because how else are you going to take your grilled vegetables and three litres of chocolate mousse on the train to your casual dinner party? Great fun, but also a lot of bustle and stress. To make those preparations a little more cheerful and light-hearted, we recommend: a wine advent calendar.

A glass a day

The advent calendars of the past contained a sweet or a little saying for each day, but calendars have grown up too, just like you. Last year, Aldi delighted us with a wine calendar; this year, De Wijnbeurs is counting down with 24 tubes of wine for almost 60 euros, allowing you to taste something different every day. They call it the ultimate Christmas gift. Each screw-cap test tube contains 100 ml of wine, so that’s one glass a day. Taste, toast, and immediately decide which wine you’re going to drink with dinner.
