Craving Verdejo? The Rueda Verdejo Borrel Tour is coming!

Celebrate World Verdejo Day with the ultimate borrel tour
Clear your calendar, because Friday, June 13 is World Verdejo Day. And what do you do on that day? Exactly: celebrate the Spanish white wine Verdejo as if it were summer. With a glass in one hand, a pintxo in the other and a smile on your face. The Rueda Verdejo Borrel Tour starts in Amsterdam on that Friday: a summery route through the city’s best Spanish wine and food spots. Taste the most delicious combinations of Rueda Verdejo and tapas, Iberian ham and pintxos.

Why Verdejo makes everyone happy
Verdejo (pronounced: berdeggo) is a white wine embraced by every wine lover. Light, fresh, aromatic and perfect for warm days. What Sauvignon Blanc is to the French bistro, Verdejo is to the Spanish terrace. The grape grows in the Spanish wine region of Rueda and produces wine that is always thirst-quenching, often with aromas of lime, pear and tropical fruit. There are other Verdejos, but you can recognize the only real Rueda Verdejo wines by the green label on the back of the bottle.
In the better bottles, you can even taste a subtle mineral undertone. No wonder sommeliers and wine lovers are fans. In the Netherlands, we drink more than five million bottles of it every year!
This is the route of the Rueda Verdejo Borrel Tour
From ham to pintxos: discover the most delicious Rueda pairings in the heart of Amsterdam. The participating venues have been carefully selected and are all equally Spanish and welcoming. With the borrel map in hand, you’ll go from bar to borrel, and from Verdejo to delight:
Wijnbar Vindict
The starting point of your tour. Here you’ll enjoy your first glass of Verdejo and immediately look forward to more. Expect a fresh style with aromas of citrus and green apple for a refreshing kickoff to the tour.
Ibericus
The place for Iberian ham. The salty, rich flavor of the ham pairs wonderfully with Verdejo’s fresh acidity. A golden duo, quite literally.
Bourgondisch Genieten
As the name suggests, this is all about abundance. Cheese, cold cuts, olives and, of course… another glass of Verdejo. Or two.
La Oliva Pintxos y Vinos
The tour ends in style. At this pintxos paradise in the Jordaan, you’ll get small bites made with a wink to northern Spain’s San Sebastián. A pintxo is a type of tapa, served on a skewer (the pintxo), often pierced onto a piece of bread. Pincho comes from the Spanish word pinchar, meaning to pierce. And yes, Verdejo flows freely here too.

What makes Verdejo so special?
Verdejo is an indigenous Spanish grape variety that owes its name to the grape’s enduring green color. Even when fully ripe, the skin remains bright green, explaining the wine’s freshness and character.
Unlike Chardonnay (which you can drink anywhere), Verdejo is truly Spanish—so it makes perfect sense that the wine pairs beautifully with Spanish bites. Because what grows together, goes together!
