The election of the Best Brabant Sausage Roll is being held for the 25th time this year. Everyone can take part, from professional bakers to amateur sausage-roll bakers. All entries are judged by both a professional jury and a jury of amateurs. Does it sound like something for you? Over the course of three days, you’ll get to taste dozens of sausage rolls.
Eating ninety rolls
Brabants Dagblad interviewed Sanne Claassen, who was on the jury last year. She had to get through ninety sausage rolls, and she loved it. ‘Some rolls were so disgusting that I threw them away, while others were so delicious that I ate them all.’ According to Sanne, you make a good jury member if you have a hearty appetite, because ninety sausage rolls is no small feat. You also have to be impartial and not give your mother’s sausage roll very high marks. And of course, you need to be good at tasting. Sanne is a true enthusiast: after the election, she received a bag of sausage rolls as a thank-you, and she polished them off the very next day.
