Eating Ice Cream Makes You Smarter

So many contradictory reports about healthy eating are published that we no longer know what to believe. That’s why, in the editorial office, we choose to believe only the reports that make us happy. Like the news that eating ice cream makes us both smarter and happier.

From Bloody Mary ice pops to Japanese milk ice cream, and from mochi ice cream to donut ice creams; our freezer is packed with ice creams of all shapes and sizes. Really, nothing is too crazy for us. And when the sun is shining brightly, we treat ourselves to an ice cream at least once a week at the best ice cream parlour in town. But now that we know ice cream makes us smarter and happier, we don’t order two scoops, but are happy to order four. Hurray!
Ice Cream Makes You Smarter
Researchers at Kyorin University in Tokyo made this brilliant ice-cream-makes-you-smarter discovery. How? After getting up, some of the people who took part in the study were given ice cream for breakfast, after which they had to complete various mental tests. The other participants were given no ice cream. And what did they find? The people who had eaten ice cream were able to process information faster and better than the group who had eaten an ice-cream-free breakfast.
Eat Plenty of Ice Cream, Read Better
A strange study? Not really, because other research also showed that there is a clear correlation between ice cream consumption and children’s reading abilities. In countries where a lot of ice cream is eaten, children are said to read better. So it would be no coincidence that Australia – with ice cream consumption of 13 litres per person per year – also has the most proficient young readers.
Happy licking!
And that’s not all: eating ice cream also makes you happier! Earlier scientific research in the United Kingdom showed that the orbitofrontal cortex (the part of the brain that processes and controls emotions) is activated when eating ice cream. A sign of emotional pleasure, which would make you happier.
Soft Serve? Yuck!
Good news, in short. Bet your next ice cream will taste even better now? Well, except for soft serve, that is, because you might prefer not to order one after reading this…
