Have you also noticed that you’ve been eating differently since coronavirus? Then you’re not the only one, because many people’s eating habits have changed due to corna. Some people stuff themselves with pizza, while others transform into three-star home chefs. But exactly how does coronavirus affect our eating habits? Scientists from the University of Antwerp have started a study. Thirty countries are now participating, and you can take part too!

Quarantine-cravings

Because of quarantine, we’ve started eating differently. At least, we at FavorFlav have. For example, at my place there’s a snack platter on the table an average of five times a week, FavorFlav’s Laura is suddenly downing liters of cola, and Adeline has meanwhile turned into a heavy drinker. Fortunately, we’re not the only ones dealing with quarantine-cravings. Research by weight-loss company Happy Weigt shows that both men and women have been piling on the pounds in recent weeks. These people too apparently regularly open a bag of sweets or a bottle of wine.

The positive side

In addition to the unhealthy habits, the researchers suspect that the study will also reveal positive changes. In recent weeks, for example, we have already seen that the number of home bakers has quadrupled (downside: empty shelves of baking products due to stockpiling), we are getting better at cooking thanks to online lessons from top chefs, and we generally have more time to prepare a healthy meal.

Useful information

But the extent to which coronavirus affects our eating, drinking and shopping habits is now being investigated. Based on the answers to the questionnaires, the researchers hope to learn useful lessons that might lead to advice for the government on how to steer our behavior in a positive direction in the future.
