Facebook group celebrates forgotten bananas and blue sandwiches

Do you come across a forgotten banana in a sports bag on the last day of the autumn holiday? Or discover a bag of currant buns in a coat pocket that you put in there months ago? Nothing to worry about, it happens, after all, say the people who share their gruesome finds in the Facebook group ‘The club of forgotten bananas and lunchboxes’.

Under the motto “a shared burden is a burden halved” and “sharing is healing,” the Facebook group is packed with photos of bright-blue sandwiches in a lunchbox, a mouldy lemon and even sprouting teabags. Mandarin season brings plenty of misery, but soggy chicory stumps, forgotten bouquets and containers of Paturain-turned-gorgonzola also show up on the page. The comments are always positive and constructive. ‘What a colourful ensemble,’ someone comments, for example, on a photo of a rediscovered lunchbox. ‘I can even see pink!’

No photo = it didn’t happen
The group’s purpose is clear: supporting fellow sufferers in this harsh world of Marie Kondos and VT Wonen types. New members are welcome. And are children always to blame? Absolutely not, most parents honestly confess. ‘Forgot to empty the coffee grounds bin for a few days,’ one person writes in the group, with a photo (because without a photo, it didn’t happen—that much is clear). ‘Children? Erm… the last fluffy green snack I found was in my own bag.’
