Fry panic: fast-food restaurants run out of fries
In Japanese branches of Kentucky Fried Chicken, posters warn guests that the supply of fries has completely run out. This means no fries will be served with the chicken for the time being.
The cause of the misery: coronavirus. As a result, potatoes cannot be delivered to make French fries. Luckily, not every KFC in Japan is having problems with the supply of fries. So what are the Japanese getting with their chicken wings and crispy chicken nuggets now—rice or a salad?
Potato surplus
In the Netherlands, there was actually a huge surplus of potatoes for making fries during the coronavirus pandemic. Because all the restaurants were closed, potato farmers could not sell their harvest. It slowly went to waste in cold-storage warehouses, while the next harvest was already on its way. Even stranger: at the time, Dutch supermarkets had potatoes from Israel on the shelves.

Logistics
For Japanese snackers, the solution is in sight. KFC’s manager expects the logistical problems to be resolved sometime this month, and then fries will cheerfully be back on the menu. But things must not go wrong again, he warns.
