The first Low Food Festival

The Low Food Festival takes place in Amsterdam on 22, 23 and 24 September. Led by sausage maker Samuel Levie, star chef Joris Bijdendijk and culinary writer Nadia Zerouali, Low Food is committed to sustainable and inclusive gastronomy. At the festival of the same name, you can not only taste exceptional dishes and products, but also significantly upgrade your food knowledge.

Food market

During the 3-day festival, there is an extensive food market featuring products such as the exceptional garum (fish sauce) made by chef Merijn van Berlo of restaurant Choux. You can also taste the soy sauce made in the Netherlands by Rotterdam-based Tomasu, as well as the local stock from The Borthel and the traditional sambal from Opa Co, made by the father of star chef Syrco Bakker.

Ladies on fire!

On Saturday 23 September, it’s ladies on fire at restaurant Wils: a four-course lunch and dinner prepared by today’s coolest female chefs. Guests will have the chance to taste dishes by Lelani Lewis, Sara Shawkat, Sabini Vola and Tania Yabra, among others. Each of them translates the cuisine they grew up with into a dish of an exceptional standard.

Wine tasting

There is also plenty to drink alongside the food. For example, you can take part in a wine tasting hosted by Vera Krijnen (sommelier at restaurant Zoldering) and Roos Stevens (sommelier at star restaurant Bridges).

Films to savour

But there’s more. Wonderful films will also be screened during the festival. Step into the life of the late chef Anthony Bourdain at the Dutch premiere of Roadrunner: a film about Anthony Bourdain, or get inspired by the impressive documentaries Future of Food andThe Taste of Desire. The film Boiling Point—filmed in a single shot—is also a special highlight. After the film, host Howard Komproe talks with chefs Joris Bijdendijk, Ron Blaauw and Fareeda van der Marel about the biggest mistakes they have made in the kitchen.

Discounted tickets

In short, there is plenty to do. The great thing about the festival is that admission is free, and you create your own programme by ordering separate tickets for the workshops and films. And with the discount code LowFoodDiscount, you get 50% off a ticket for a film of your choice!

The Low Food Festival takes place at Move Amsterdam, Stadionplein 28 in Amsterdam. On Friday, the programme runs from 17:00 to 23:00, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 to 22:30.
