Gordon Ramsay: this is the best cuisine in the world
There’s no arguing about taste. But when you ask millions of people for their opinion and millions agree on something… Well, that does say something. Pubity asked its followers (and there are more than 38 million of them) about their favorite cuisine in the world. Gordon Ramsay announced the results on Instagram.
And the winner is… drumroll… Moroccan cuisine! No fewer than 2.5 million votes went to Moroccan cuisine.
Colors, aromas and flavors
I’m not that surprised. Moroccan cuisine may well be one of the most aromatic, colorful and flavorful of them all. Aromatic herbs and spices are used extensively. Saffron, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and cumin, for example, not to mention the spice blend ras el hanout, of course. Another striking thing: an enormous amount of love and patience goes into the dishes. Just look at tajine, in which meat, vegetables and dried fruit are cooked very slowly until tender. Or couscous, which they carefully make as as fluffy as possible.
Here in the editorial office, we also love trying our hand at Moroccan cuisine. Chicken bastilla is a real favorite, and we’re more than happy to make a sweet Moroccan meskouta. We’ve practically worn out Abdel Alaoui’s cookbook Shoukran —its oranges with cinnamon are our favorite recipe. Stuffed eggplants with almonds are always a hit with us too.
Gordon is a fan
Gordon himself completely agrees with the results, by the way. The famous chef said he is absolutely crazy about chicken rfissa, a traditional Moroccan dish. Once, he ate with the local Berber people, and the dish he was served blew him away so completely that he said he ‘wanted to be a Berber’. It was medfouna filled with morels, porcini and chanterelles, by the way: a stuffed bread also known as ‘Berber pizza’.
This is number two
Where there is a first place, there is also a second. In Pubity’s survey, that was Mexican cuisine. We can certainly get behind that too; that’s why we recently put together a list of the best Mexican restaurants in Amsterdam.
Pubity is not the first online magazine to rank the best cuisines in the world, by the way. A while ago, TasteAtlas did the same, and it produced a completely different winner: Italian cuisine.
