Great news: eating chocolate during your pregnancy makes for a smarter child

One of those bits of news you’ve been fervently hoping for years would be true. And wouldn’t colleague Livia from Amayzine have found this gem. Eating chocolate is extremely good for you, especially when you’re pregnant. Because eating chocolate during your pregnancy results in a smarter and even healthier child. Well, look at that. And if science says so…

Time to snack
You may not be able to think about it because of your morning sickness, but if you’re pregnant, eating chocolate is a very good plan, according to scientific research. A Canadian research team has shown that chocolate contains a number of substances that are important during pregnancy. And they’re found mainly in dark, pure cocoa: it contains antioxidants that, simply put, keep your cells from ageing. Good for mum, then.
Those substances in chocolate also have a positive effect on blood circulation in the placenta. As you know, the placenta is incredibly important for your unborn baby: it feeds your child and protects it from all harmful substances from outside. And – there’s more – eating chocolate reduces the risk of pregnancy poisoning.
Moreover, a bite of chocolate gives your mood a lovely boost, as we all know. It simply makes you happier, and that’s always good for the health of mother and child. So an occasional small piece of your dark chocolate bar is not enough. You may have more. Experts claim that pregnant women who eat chocolate five times a week are 40 percent less likely to become ill. Experts whom we happen to like a lot right now.
Happy baby
Five times a week sounds divine. But that’s not even all. Other scientific research shows that mothers who eat chocolate every day have happier babies, who laugh more and cry less. When a child is six months old, scientists notice a difference between groups of children whose mothers ate a lot of chocolate during pregnancy and children whose mothers did not. Well, need we say more? Exactly: this is what all mothers (to be) want to know.
