Great tip: French toast from the Airfryer

wentelteefjes met suiker

People used to practically laugh in your face when you told them you had an Airfryer, but those days are behind us now. Although… hardcore deep-fryers still laugh at us en masse and call for a returning Dutch Airfryer-throwing Championship. Anyway, we switch on our Airfryer every day, even for breakfast. Because French toast from the Airfryer? That’s delicious!

French toast—the lovely old-fashioned slices of white bread coated in a soft mixture of egg yolk, milk and sugar, which you then fry until crispy in a pan—can also be prepared with a little less fat.

Benefits of French toast from the Airfryer

It’s obviously not exactly a super-healthy breakfast to begin with, and although you should treat yourself from time to time to something packed with calories, this is a healthier option that you can bring out a little more often.

You can taste the rest even better now

Because you’re not going to fry the French toast in a pan with butter now, you’ll sacrifice a little of the rich flavor. But you can easily make up for that with the other flavorings, such as cinnamon—and another delicious addition: grated lemon zest. Those flavors actually come into their own even better now. You should still grease the Airfryer basket with a brush and some neutral oil, such as rapeseed oil.

Easy does it French toast

At first, you’ll proceed as you would with ‘regular’ French toast: make the batter and season it nicely. Need tips? Then be sure to read this article first with 5 tips for the best French toast. Instead of frying the French toast in a pan, bake it at 160C: three minutes on one side, then turn it over for another three minutes on the other side.

Weekend boozy version

Super simple, and also an easy way to make a somewhat larger batch than when you have to keep standing by a pan on the stove. And are you in the mood to really go all out for brunch? Then you’ll find the recipe for the best boozy French toast here!
