Hello mayo lovers, these are the 9 things you really need to know

Mayonnaise lovers, please report in. You’ll want to repeat these nine amazing facts about mayo again and again, until you know them inside and out. Because wow, that white super sauce really is fantastic.

Mayo is indispensable in your sandwiches, when making toasted sandwiches and with your fries. And of course you can dip your fries in ketchup, and there’s also fritessaus, but it’s nowhere near the same. What would we do without mayonnaise?
Nine reasons why mayonnaise is the absolute best sauce
#1: Easy to make yourself
There’s nothing wrong with Kewpie mayonnaise, Jean Bâton, Zaanse mayonnaise in a tube or a jar of Hellmann’s, but homemade mayo is the absolute best. And the great advantage: you can make it exactly to your own taste. Like a little heat in the jar? Go on, add a spoonful of sriracha to your mayonnaise. Prefer it more sour? Use some delicious French mustard. Difficult? I don’t think so.
#2: Coat your chicken with it
Mayonnaise is a mixture of something acidic, oil, egg and salt. The perfect marinade for a roast chicken! Coat the entire chicken with mayonnaise before it goes into the oven, and it will get a wonderfully crispy crust. Even better: add a little stock powder or some Worcestershire sauce to the mayonnaise before coating the chicken.
#3: Also for breakfast
For some reason, we make different sandwiches for breakfast than for lunch. But why? Of course, you can have a delicious club sandwich for breakfast, with plenty of mayonnaise on every slice of toast.
#4: Add herbs
You have some leftover parsley in the vegetable drawer, the basil plant on the counter has a few struggling leaves left, and what are you going to do with that chives? Chop them roughly, add some mayonnaise and blend with an immersion blender. The result: very tasty green mayonnaise.
#5: Mashed potato plus
The secret ingredient for super-creamy mashed potatoes full of flavor: a few spoonfuls of mayonnaise. Don’t worry that your mashed potatoes will taste like mayonnaise, because they won’t. You’ll simply get deliciously creamy, silky mash—and who wouldn’t want that?
#6: Shrimp on the grill
Brush some mayo over the jumbo shrimp you’re going to put on the barbecue. This will give them a nicer, browner coating on the outside, and they won’t stick so firmly to your BBQ grill. Even your barbecued steak can benefit from it!
#7: Perfect coating
Are you breading something? Then you already know how it goes: one plate with flour, one plate with egg and one plate with breadcrumbs, then dip everything through those plates. It can be easier: coat your nuggets, schnitzel or piece of fish in mayonnaise, then cover it with panko or breadcrumbs. Perfect coating, coming right up!
#8: Salad dressing
Is the jar of mayonnaise almost empty, and you don’t know how to neatly scrape out those last bits? The solution: use the jar to make a salad dressing. Simply add oil, some vinegar and other ingredients to the jar, shake vigorously and voilà: time to feast.
#9: Star marinade
Marinate the meat in a dressing of mayonnaise with some miso, garlic, lemon and other delicious flavors—it works perfectly. It also makes a great dip for crudités, by the way.
