In this Dutch province, the most frikandellen are ordered at night

In 2022, we also had the tastiest burgers with a cheese soufflé in the middle delivered to our homes, as well as the holy soft serve from FEBO and Domino’s cheeseburger pizza. But that same year, there were even more facts about our ordering habits. Thuisbezorgd listed the most notable ones — including where the most frikandellen were ordered.

January 1 is the busiest day of the year for delivery drivers. Not surprising, because half the Netherlands is then sprawled on the sofa with a pounding hangover, craving some fries but with zero energy to go out and get them. The reason we order is therefore either that we don’t feel like cooking (33%) or that we simply feel like having something tasty (25%).

Even more facts

1. In 2022, more than 6 million people ordered food via Thuisbezorgd. 53% of them were women and 46% men.
2. The five most popular cuisines were Italian, American, Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian.
3. 1 in 7 orders was vegetarian or vegan, with pizza margherita in first place.
4. A lot was ordered at night too. Especially in Groningen, Friesland and South Holland. In Gelderland, at least, they love frikandellen, as more than 10,000 (!) were ordered there at night last year.
5. In Zeeland, Overijssel, North Brabant, Limburg, Groningen, Gelderland and Drenthe, the most-ordered dish was a döner kapsalon from the local snack bar.
6. You could also have the necessary groceries delivered to your front door via the delivery service. The most popular groceries ordered were bread and pastries from the bakery, followed by soft drinks and fresh juices.
7. The cuisine we will undoubtedly see more of this year is Middle Eastern. It became considerably more popular in 2022 and was the number-one newcomer in 9 of the 12 provinces.
