InSaeng is Switzerland’s best Korean restaurant and now also in Amsterdam
Korean cuisine is hotter than hot, and not only in the figurative sense. More and more Korean restaurants are opening worldwide. I’m happy about that, because I love Korean cuisine. So it’s very good news that Switzerland’s best Korean restaurant, family-run restaurant InSaeng, has now opened in Amsterdam too. You’ll find InSaeng in the Jordaan.
It suddenly appeared on my Instagram feed this weekend: Korean restaurant InSaeng. Daan van der Lecq, a.k.a. chefvanderlecq, couldn’t believe what he was experiencing—it was so delicious. “An authentic South Korean restaurant whose original location in Switzerland has long queues outside every day.” According to Daan, it’s absolutely a hidden treasure, because you would never expect to find this place here, in the Jordaan.
I immediately started investigating. What kind of new place is this?
From food truck to top restaurant
InSaeng is a spin-off of De Koreaner 59 in Zurich. This small restaurant has been a beloved spot among locals and hotshots for years. It all started with a food truck run by twenty-somethings Yoo-Sung Jang and Anudari Bumdari. They took it to festivals, and the Korean fried chicken was a huge hit. Just like the other dishes served here—and now in Amsterdam too, yeah!—it is made according to recipes from Jang’s mother, who moved from Seoul to Switzerland with her husband about 25 years ago.

InSaeng isn’t located in a busy part of the Jordaan, but rather in a quiet spot—more specifically, on the corner of Goudsbloemstraat and Lijnbaansgracht. So you have to make a little effort to get there—and then you’re rewarded with divine Korean dishes such as Sweet&Spicy Wings, a Bulgogi burger (with that divine Gochujang), Bibimbap, Kimchi fried rice, Korean hotdogs (with loooots of cheese!) and, of course, soju is also on the menu.
InSaeng is open from Thursday through Sunday for lunch and every evening (except Monday) for dinner. I say: go!
