Japanese food for… cats?
They shed everywhere, the litter box stinks, and sometimes they give you a mouse as a present. Cats are unusual pets, yet there are currently 2.6 million of them living in the Netherlands. Their owners pamper them with treats, soft cushions, and tasty cans of food, but no one takes it as far as Japanese Jun, who cooks elaborate meals for his three cats and posts videos of it on YouTube.
JunsKitchen is a popular YouTube channel where Jun and his girlfriend Rachel show their home, demonstrate how they do their grocery shopping, and share what life is like in Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture. The videos about their three cats are a huge hit.
Miso soup
With all the care and dedication of a professional Japanese chef, Jun prepares classic Japanese meals for his cats, using ingredients that are completely suitable for cats. He seasons the miso soup with cat grass, lets the cats taste a slice of bonito (dried tuna), and makes rice from thoroughly cooked chicken breast.
Watching calmly
And the cats? They sit calmly on their little stools and watch attentively as Jun chops, steams, grills, and slices. When the food is finally served, they seem briefly embarrassed to eat on camera. But when Jun places the chopped chicken breast in the tuna broth in front of them, they can no longer contain themselves.
