McDonald’s sends hamburger and milkshake into the sky (and you can join in!)
It’s summer, so McDonald’s is throwing a party. And they’re doing it with a bizarre 400-kilo hot-air balloon shaped like a milkshake and a big burger. With a basket attached, it will rise a kilometre into the air so everyone can enjoy it.
Would you fancy dangling in a basket beneath that enormous burger? Then you can sign yourself and your friends up to fly via the McDonald’s app. Explain in your message why you, of all people, want to go up into the sky; winners are selected every week for a flight. The balloon can reach an altitude of one kilometre, McDonald’s spokesperson says.

And during the summer party, there are also prizes to be won by people who just miss out on a spot in the balloon (or don’t want one at all): meal deals, a picnic blanket or a radio.
