McKroket returns after widespread criticism of the vegetarian version

The croquette is, of course, sacred in our country—you don’t mess with it. Even McDonald’s knows that now, because these days it is trying to offer a few more vegetarian items on the menu… But the Meatless McKroket is not exactly a hit. People are so angry about it—and have made that very clear—that McDonald’s felt compelled to respond, and to bring back the regular McKroket.

‘It’s simply a temporary promotion, the ‘Meatless McKroket’, intended to inspire consumers a little to vary their choices,’ said a McDonald’s spokesperson.

‘Tastes just like cardboard!’

Complaints about the vegetarian McKroket poured in on Twitter, among other platforms. I ordered one myself because I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, and honestly: it is not good. It is absolutely not good, and in my opinion has very little left in common with a croquette. Vegetarian options are of course a good thing, and I am certainly enthusiastic about Maccie’s offering more vegetarian choices (and I do think the veggie nuggets are tasty), but this one simply really doesn’t taste good.

So removing the regular McKroket from the menu and leaving only the vegetarian version was not McDonald’s best decision—and they now realise that too. That’s why the real McKroket is coming back: from the beginning of November, it will be back on the menu and will remain there permanently. Thankfully.
