McRib makes a comeback: fans ecstatic

Four years ago, Snackspert issued an emergency appeal: we want the McRib back in the Netherlands! He even started a petition, but the thousand signatures turned out not to be enough. McDonald’s did not bring the beloved McRib back to the Dutch menu. But now that the McRib will be available in England again, hope is dawning for Dutch fans. Will the McRib cross the Channel?

For those who don’t know the McRib: it’s a snack with enormous cult status. What can you expect? A soft bun with a seasoned pork patty (in the shape of a rib), a shitload of barbecue sauce, onions and pickles.
Why is the McRib so popular?
That worldwide cult status is not only due to its unique flavor – juicy pork with sweet and smoky barbecue sauce – but certainly also to its limited availability. Unlike many other McDonald’s products, the McRib only appears on the menu sporadically. And that creates a sense of urgency among fans. There is even a name for this phenomenon: the ‘McRib effect’. The sandwich is available so rarely that a hype emerges as soon as it appears on the menu again – for a limited time.
McRib availability
And that is often in autumn and winter. ‘McRIB IS BACK’, proclaimed a McDonald’s location in San Francisco when it temporarily returned to the menu in 2010. And the same hysteria will soon become a reality in England. The favorite sandwich has not been available there for 10 years, but from October 25, 2024, it will once again be available for a limited time. Dutch fans are now fervently hoping for a crossing to the Netherlands. Will it finally happen?

Scarcity as a marketing strategy
It should be clear: the McRib is much more than a sandwich: it is a phenomenon that gets fans around the world excited. Its rare appearance on the menu only makes the sandwich more desirable. With its reintroduction on October 25, 2024, the time has come for English fans to tuck into this iconic sandwich once again, but as always: it won’t last long.
