This Is What Drive-Thru Employees Really Find Bloody Annoying About Customers

DriveThru-Favorflav

Do you know what drive-thru employees really hate? Is it indecisively looking at the menu while you’re already at the microphone? Is it fumbling around for change to pay the exact amount at the cashier window? No, it’s something completely different…

You’re at the cashier window. You want to pay. And then suddenly you remember: actually, add a milkshake. Or an extra portion of fries. Or maybe a McFlurry after all. No one can blame you, because that delicious smell of fries probably wafted out through the cashier window and straight into your nose. Or you see a big poster of those tasty nuggets—irresistible! But drive-thru employees are not happy about this at all.

Angry team leader

An anonymous KFC employee revealed on forum site Reddit that such an addition to the order always causes a lot of hassle for the poor soul at the window. Adding something to your order isn’t a problem, but if adding, for example, fries suddenly means that you’d be better off ordering a meal, they have to remove your old order from the computer and enter the new one. That takes time, and management really isn’t happy about it. A correction is susceptible to fraud, and settling a difference is prone to errors. A maximum of three corrections per day, says the employee, otherwise the team leader gives her a telling-off. Ouch…

Time is money!

Such a change also takes time, and time is money in the fast food business —the name says it all. ‘People aren’t allowed to stand at the window for longer than sixty seconds,’ says another employee. Changing an order naturally takes more time, and who do you think gets blamed for that? Yep, the employee. The whole time-is-money thing also applies to your hesitation at the microphone, your search for exact change and checking your order at the window where you’re handed the brown bag of fried-food happiness.

Checking the receipt

In short: do those busy employees a huge favor and decide in advance what you want to eat, pay by card and don’t come up with even more treats to add to your order halfway through your drive-thru adventure. And do you want to check your order and receipt before driving away? There are special parking spaces for that; you don’t need to do it at the window. Happy snacking!
