Through the McDrive in a cardboard car, this is how you do it
The Belgian McDrives opened again, and Belgian Nathalie Moermans was craving a burger so badly that she absolutely wanted to join the hamburger queue. The problem: she doesn’t have a car. But that was quickly solved with a few cardboard boxes and a roll of tape.
In the Netherlands, we have little to complain about with this intelligent lockdown. The restaurants are closed and that is really frustrating, but drive-ins are simply open. Things were different in Belgium: everything was shut down, except supermarkets and pharmacies. So when an easing of the measures was announced and it became known that the McDrive in Hainaut could reopen, Nathalie Moermans breathed a sigh of relief. She was really in the mood for a Happy Meal or a Big Mac Menu! But of course, you need a car for a drive-in, and she doesn’t have one. Fortunately, she does have creativity, so together with her daughter and daughter-in-law she crafted a car out of cardboard boxes: the McDo Mobile.
Um… paying by card?
Everything went smoothly: Nathalie and the two women joined the queue, ordered at the microphone and rolled on to the collection window. It was only when the employee held out the card machine that he saw the three of them were sitting in a cardboard car. The McDonald’s employees immediately started taking photos of the creative trio. ‘It was a brilliant joke and we didn’t put anyone in danger,’ Nathalie explained afterwards. The photos of the trio in the cardboard car are going around the world; those delicious French fries almost seem like an afterthought.
