Moving to beautiful Italy and getting €30,000 too: who’s in?
Look, with that worldwide love for pasta, pizza and gelato, there’s probably a little Italian blood flowing through everyone’s veins. But is that really the case for you? An ageing population in the Tuscan mountains
So what’s going on in Tuscany? Actually, it’s a bit like what’s happening in our province of Zeeland and the Achterhoek: the population is ageing. Young people are leaving the mountainous areas of Tuscany in search of adventures in the city. There’s work there, shops, restaurants and nightclubs: that’s where life happens. But then again… Who wouldn’t want to live in a picturesque mountain village among Italian vineyards, I wonder.
That’s why the Tuscany region has come up with something to draw Italians back to the mountain villages. To keep things a little lively there, but also simply to fill all those abandoned mountain homes again. What else are you supposed to do with so many vacant properties? The Residenzialità in Montagna 2024 plan is intended to solve that problem. One of its perks: new residents receive €10,000 to €30,000 if they buy their dream home in the Tuscan mountains.
Time to look for that Italian passport
Before you start frantically searching for your Italian passport: there are a few conditions. The money you receive may not exceed 50% of the cost of your new home and its renovation. In addition, your new home must be in a Tuscan mountain town with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. Finally, you must not yet live in an Italian mountain community when you register.
